Pakistan’s favorite film actress – Mehwish Hayat and fashion Lord – Hassan Sheheryar Yasin will be a part of the Pakistani Academy Selection Committee this year, headed by two-time Oscar and Emmy Award winner – Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. The committee will also include director Asad-ul-Haq and Strings’ Faisal Kapadia.

As the 93rd Academy Awards open for submissions, the selection committee urges Pakistani filmmakers to submit their work for consideration under the ‘International Feature Film Award’ category. The deadline to submit the films is October 20, 2020.

Mehwish Hayat and Hassan Shehryar Yasin recently took to their Instagrams to express their gratitude for having been selected for the honorable role.

The actress said she was looking forward to seeing the nominated films and choosing one as Pakistan’s official submission alongside the selection committee adding, “At least this is one way that we can be putting a positive image of our country and highlighting our talent on the world stage” wrote Ms. Hayat as she looked forward to watching each of the potential films before selecting one to be submitted.

Pop music heart throb – musician Faisal Kapadia, ace director Asad-ul-Haq, sought-after filmmakers Maheen Zia, Asim Abbasi and Hamza Bangash, scriptwriter Bee Gul, and actor Syed Muhammad Ahmed are also part of the committee this time round. Only one film is to be selected from Pakistan as a nominee for the ‘International Feature Film Award’ category.

Pakistan’s previous submissions included Zinda Bhaag in 2013, Dukhtar in 2014, Moor in 2015, Mah-e-Mir in 2016, Saawan in 2017, Cake in 2018 and Lal Kabootar in 2019.

This year’s submission will be announced right after its submission.
