Mohammad Rizwan in Wisden’s list of Five Cricketers of the Year

The honour was announced as the historic almanack unveiled its 2021 edition. The right-hander cricketer wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan has averaged more than 40 across three Tests for Pakistan during their 1-0 series defeat to England and was also praised for his brilliant wicket-keeping skills during the series.

Rizwan’s performance was decent and his stumps were good for Pakistan when he caught Ben Stokes high to his left during the First Test at Old Trafford. He also scored 40 with the bat, and was later confirmed as his country’s new vice captain across all formats.

Wisden marks 50 years of ODIs by naming its greatest player for each decade, and from 2010s it was Virat Kohli. Kohli was part of the team that won the 2011 World Cup at the start of the decade and went on to proving himself as one of the leading batsmen in all formats of the game. Especially in ODIs. He scored more than 11,000 runs in the ten-year stretch, averaging over 60 and scoring 42 centuries.

Jason Holder, alongwith Dominic Sibley, Darren Stevens and Zak Crawley, was also named among the Wisden Five Cricketers of the Year. Holder has emerged as the leading all-rounder in Test cricket and is among just a handful of players in history to score over 2000 runs and take over 100 wickets in less than 50 Test appearances.

He was at the forefront when the West Indies team played against England in the summer of 2020, becoming the first team to tour during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Congratulations to Mohammad Rizwan for getting the prestigious place in the Wisden’s Almanack!
