Javed Iqbal movie release in new trouble

The film Javed Iqbal: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer, directed by Abu Aleeha, has had a rocky road. According to the filmmaker, the Punjab government has blocked the release of the Ayesha Omar and Yasir Hussain-starrer. The movie is slated for a nationwide premiere tomorrow (January 28) after several months of delays.

The film is based on the investigation into Javed Iqbal. A serial murderer murdered 100 young boys in Lahore in 1999. And then provided evidence of his crimes to authorities and the media. The film was directed by Abu Aleeha, who also wrote the screenplay. Moreover, Javed Ahmed Kakepoto is the producer of the film.

Despite having received certification from all censor boards, Javed Iqbal’s release was blocked by the Punjab government. According to several social media platforms. Besides that, Abu Aleeha later corroborated the report on Twitter. “The current news is that [Chief Minister] Sardar Usman Buzdar’s government has put a stop to the screening of Javed Iqbal, which is an unjustified action that comes after the censor board authorized the film, which is why we will be bringing the case to the high court,” he said.

The delays of release

Javed Iqbal was meant to premiere in October. However, the censor board pushed the movie till December 24th. According to Omar, December was also unlucky. Furthermore, the film’s release was once again delayed due to an increase in Covid-19 instances. The film’s release date has been pushed back to January 28.

Moreover, on January 25, the cast and crew, as well as other members of the entertainment world, attended the film’s Karachi premiere at Nueplex Cinema.
