It follows Zoe (Lily James), a documentary-maker and dating app addict for whom swiping right has only resulted in an endless stream of Mr. Wrongs, much to the chagrin of her eccentric mother Cath (Emma Thompson). For Zoe’s childhood friend and neighbour Kaz (Shazad Latif), the answer is to follow his parents’ lead and marry Maymouna (Sajal Aly), a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan, in an arranged (or “assisted”) marriage. As Zoe films Kaz’s journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger chosen by his parents, she begins to wonder if she can learn from a very different approach to finding love.
