All-Rounder Qasim Akram appointed as Pakistan U19 captain
The all-rounder Qasim Akram has been appointed as a captain U19 for Pakistan. Qasim is selected to lead the U19 team in the Bangladesh tour that includes a four-day game and five 50-overs fixures in Sylhet and Dhaka.

The 18-year-old from Lahore was recognized as one of the players to watch out out for by lead trainer and coach Ijaz Ahmed finally year’s ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in South Africa where he scored 93 runs at 46.50 and took three wickets at 31.
Qasim showed his potential in the 2020-21 domestic season as he established a major impression in each of the three formats for Central Punjab.

He has played eight top-of-the-line, 12 List A, and 10 T20 matches in the season and later made it to the Karachi Kings for the HBL PSL 6 season as a newly discovered player. And in 12 games for Punjab Central, Qasim score 462 runs at 57.75. He made 3 half-centuries with a 101.31 strike rate. For Quaid-e-Azam trophy, Qasim scored 389 runs in 14 innings. Furthermore, he collected his maiden wicket in his early 13-wicket season tally. Qasim also scored 72 runs in six innings and collected three wickets in the National T20 Cup.

On the occasion, Qasim Akram said that it is an honor for him to lead Pakistan U19. The last year has been very good for him and he thanked the management for giving him confidence. Additionally, he said, that he learned a great deal during these 12 months and learned a lot about the competitive domestic season, where he represented Central Punjab.
Lastly he said, “My aim would be to guide the team to the best of my ability and to pass on the experiences of my maiden domestic season. During the tour as we build towards next year’s ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in the West Indies where we would aim to better our semi-final performance of last year’s edition in South Africa.”
“This tour will help us identify the players that will form the core of the World Cup side. The tour will also provide great exposure to the squad against the reigning world champions and will help us in our development for the years ahead,” he added.
Meanwhile, the selectors have cut down the 20-player squad to a 17-member party. Some players including Asim Ali, Arham Nawab and Rizwan Mehmood didn’t make it to the final squad. But they can have their trainings with the players. The team will leave for Dhaka on 17th April 2021.
