Lasith Malinga Retires from all forms of cricket

Lasith Malinga, the legendary Sri Lankan fast bowler, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Tuesday. “I’m hanging up my #T20 boots and calling it quits on all forms of cricket! Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way, and I look forward to sharing my experiences with young cricketers in the future “the 38-year-old wrote on Twitter.

He also released a video with a compilation of some of his memorable moments on the pitch as well as a statement thanking all of the teams he played for as well as his teammates. He labeled the video, “While my shoes rest, my love for the game never rests.”

In a video, he adds, “Today is a very special day for me. Because I want to thank each and everyone, who has supported me and blessed me throughout my T20 career. Today I decided that I want to give a 100 percent rest for my T20 bowling shoes.

“That’s why I want to thank Sri Lankan Cricket Board and my team members. While my shoes will rest, my love for the game will never ask for rest. Looking forward to seeing our youngsters make history.” 

The shining career of Lasith Malinga

Malinga represented Sri Lanka in 226 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), 84 Twenty-20 Internationals (T20Is), and 30 Tests. While he only has 101 wickets in Test cricket, he has 338 ODI wickets and 107 T20I wickets. On July 1, 2004, Malinga made his Test debut for Sri Lanka against Australia.

In ODI cricket, Malinga has three hat-tricks, with his effort against South Africa in the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies going down in history. In 2011, Malinga withdrew from Test cricket to focus on his fitness and the shorter formats of the game.

Malinga, who is known for his devastating yorker bowling, was instrumental in Sri Lanka reaching the 2011 World Cup final.

He subsequently went on to win the 2014 T20 World Cup for Sri Lanka.
