England defeats India to advance to the T20 World Cup final against Pakistan

Pakistan and England to the final T20 World Cup

England defeated India by 10 wickets in the second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Adelaide on Thursday, thanks to an unbeaten 170-run stand between Alex Hales and Jos Buttler.

The ultimate crush by Alex Hales and Jos Buttler

The England opening pair put on a stellar performance in Adelaide, charging against the Indian bowlers from the start of their innings. Earlier in the innings, it was Hales who smashed the Indian bowlers while Buttler played second fiddle. But, once England had a firm grip on the match, the English skipper joined the party in the second half of the innings.

Their partnership enabled England to chase down 169 with 10 wickets and 24 balls remaining. Buttler scored 80* from 49 deliveries, while Hales remained unbeaten on 86 from 47 deliveries. Hardik Pandya’s brilliant knock propels India to a competitive total.

Earlier, India had a difficult start to their innings after losing KL Rahul early on. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma attempted to form a partnership, but England’s tight bowling prevented them from scoring quickly.

What’s next for the finals?

England’s crushing victory over India has helped them book a spot in the T20 World Cup final against Pakistan. Both teams finished second in their respective Super 12 groups, and their chances of making the semi-finals appeared remote at one point. But both teams made incredible comebacks to not only reach the semi-finals, but also the finals. The two teams last met in the 1992 World Cup final, which Pakistan won. England will now look to set the record straight by lifting the trophy at Melbourne’s iconic MCG.

Pakistan loses to India by five wickets in t20 Asia cup

In a tense Asia Cup Twenty20 match on Sunday, India defeated Pakistan by five wickets, thanks in large part to an unbeaten 33 from Hardik Pandya.

Dubai, India needed to score 148 runs to win, and thanks in large part to a crucial fifth-wicket stand of 52 between Ravindra Jadeja and Pandya, they did so with two balls to spare.

During their inaugural match of the six-nation event, pace bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Pandya combined seven wickets to secure victory for India after they bowled out Pakistan for 147.

The Blue Shirts are chasing a goal of 148 and have already lost 4 wickets in 15 overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya shared seven wickets between them as India knocked out Pakistan for 147. After taking some early wickets, Mohammad Rizwan tried to get Pakistan off to a fast start with his 43, but the Indian bowlers kept fighting back.

The second over!

With his dismissal of Babar Azam for 10 in the second over, Kumar established the tone for India’s hegemony and finished with stats of 4-26. Pandya’s three wickets shook Pakistan’s middle order.

When India decided to bat first, Rizwan was almost given out by Kumar on the second delivery. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman successfully appealed the call. The format Azam got things started with a boundary in the first over. But his stay was brief as Kumar quickly removed him at short fine-leg.

After being smashed for a six and four by Rizwan, pace bowler Avesh Khan retaliated by forcing Fakhar (10) to edge the ball faintly behind. The Indian fielders did not protest and did not rejoice until Fakhar left, much to his partner’s astonishment.

Meet Pakistan’s rising cricket star, Abdullah Shafique

The rising star, Abdullah Shafique

The centurion from the Galle Test, Abdullah Shafique, is from Sialkot, a place well recognised for manufacturing and exporting sporting products. His father, Shafiq Ahmed, played in 26 first-class cricket games as a former first-class player. At the Amir Waseem Cricket Academy in Sialkot, the opening batter played club cricket before moving up to the highest tier of domestic cricket by representing Sialkot Region at the U16 and U19 levels.

He was chosen for two ACC U19 Asia Cups in 2016 and 2017. And also Pakistan U19 tour of Sri Lanka in October 2015. The batter did not perform well in the U19 tournaments, managing only 63 runs from seven games.

A new wave

2019’s implementation of the new domestic framework resulted in a new opportunity for Abdullah. The right-handed batter was chosen for Central Punjab Second XI on the recommendation of a three-member independent panel. The panel was made up of former Test cricketers Misbah-ul-Haq, Nadeem Khan, and Rashid Latif.

They were tasked with reviewing and finalising the six cricket association sides after initially being passed over for selection in the first XI and Second XI sides.

In the three-day Second XI competition in the 2019–20 season, Abdullah took advantage of the chance and amassed two centuries and a half-century to record 545 runs in six games at an average of 68.13.

When Abdullah Shafique started playing cricket?

His impressive performance won him a berth in Central Punjab’s illustrious First XI, and Abdullah made sure he stole the show by scoring 133 off 209 balls in his first-class debut in December 2019. At the Multan Cricket Stadium on September 30, 2020, Abdullah made his first T20 appearance and hit 11 fours and four sixes on his way to a sensational 102 not out off 58 balls against Southern Punjab.

The PSL journey

Abdullah was the first player selected by Multan Sultans in the 2018 HBL PSL Players Draft, however he did not play in any games that year. Abdullah ultimately played in the PSL for the first time in 2022 with the Lahore Qalandars, scoring 251 runs in 11 games.

Success and more success

In a T20I series against Zimbabwe in November 2020, the 22-year-old made his debut for his country. However, he rose to fame in the Test format. Since making his Test debut against Bangladesh in 2021, Abdullah has not looked back. With 720 runs after six Tests, he has surpassed the legendary Javed Miandad in terms of runs scored by a Pakistani hitter. He has played in six Test matches. And his performance is commendable!

Babar Azam’s tweet in support of Virat Kohli takes Twitter on a storm

Babar Azam for Virat Kohli?

After Virat Kohli’s form dipped, Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam spoke out in favour of the fellow generational talent. Due to a groin injury, Kohli missed the first ODI against England and scored just 16 runs in the second game, which India lost by a score of 100 runs at Lord’s.

After scoring 1 and 11 in the T20I series and failing in the postponed fifth Test, the right-hander has now gone 77 consecutive international innings without reaching three figures. Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal are both resting for the same tour, hence his name is also absent from India’s T20I team to play the West Indies.

Fans and previous players have questioned Kohli’s status in the team because of the impending T20 World Cup and the necessity for World Test Championship points to stay in the running for next year’s final, but his Pakistani opponent has expressed his support on social media.
