Kanye West asks court to legally become a ‘Ye’

Kanye West filed court papers to legally change his name on Tuesday. According to reports, the 44-year-old wants to drop his entire name — Kanye Omari West — in favor of his longtime two-letter nickname, Ye, with no middle or surname name, according to a Los Angeles Superior Court application.

The paperwork, which dates from August 11 but was not filed until Tuesday, citing “personal reasons” for the change. The attorney who submitted the filings did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Before the modification becomes official, it must be approved by a judge.

Kanye or Ye?

This isn’t the first time West has attempted to go by a pseudonym. On Twitter in 2018, the rapper revealed that he is no longer “the being formally known as Kanye West… I am YE.”

His 2018 album was likewise titled with the nickname. Furthermore, he’s claimed in interviews that he likes it since it’s a shortening of his first name and because it’s a term that appears throughout the Bible.

West is currently divorcing Kim Kardashian West. Moreover, she did not request that her last name changed back to Kardashian when she filed for divorce in February. His surname is also used by the couple’s four children.
