Mahira Khan’s debut in 2011

In 2011, Khan made her movie debut in a supporting role in Shoaib Mansoor’s directorial Bol. She played the role of Ayesha, a young lady from a traditionalist lower-working class family living in an old piece of Lahore, who imparts a shared enthusiasm for music to her love interest Mustafa, played by Atif Aslam. The film was critically and commercially was one of the greatest earning Pakistani movies ever. That very year, Khan showed her presence in her TV show debut as ‘Ayla’ in Neeyat directed by Mehreen Jabbar.

Humsafar became a turning point for Mahira’s career. She played the magnificent role of Khirad in Sarmad Khoosat’s directorial. Her drama got immense praise and love in both India and Pakistan and aired on the Zindagi channel in India. Humsafar earned her a Lux Style Award for Satellite Best TV Actress and a Hum Award for Best Onscreen Couple.

She also played a role in another directorial of Sarmad Khoosat, Shehr-e-Zaat, where she earned a Best Actress award from PMA along with a HUM Awards. Mahira continued her hosting journey with The Lighter Side of Life.

In 2014, she played Shano in Hum TV’s Sadqay Tumhare. In 2015 she acted opposite Humayun Saeed in Bin Roye. And the same year she played a supporting role in Sarmad Khoosat’s Manto.

In 2016, Mahira played a leading role in Asim Raza’s Ho Mann Jahaan, that earned her a Lux Style Award for Best Actress Film.

2017 became the best and life-turning point in Mahira’s film career as she played Asiya opposite Shahrukh Khan in the movie Raees. Despite the cross-border issues and no promotions countrywide the movie modestly earned a whopping $39million worldwide. The same year she played a serious role in Shoaib Mansoor’s Verna. She did a few projects including 7 Din Mohabbat In, Maula Jatt, Parey Hutt Love, and a leading role in Superstar opposite Bilal Ashraf.

Mahira extending her gratitude to fans for completing a decade

As Mahira celebrates a decade in the industry, with outstanding performances over the years, the Humsafar star thanked her fans and wrote on her Instagram, “So, I completed 10 years in this industry as an actor two days back. My film Bol and my drama serial Neeyat released on the same day on the 24th of June 2011.”

She further added, “I bow my head in gratitude to all of you.. for this magical journey I’ve had and continue to have. There have been many ups and downs, there have been moments of feeling broken and alone, and moments of feeling elated.. but my fans have been there rock solid, behind me. My constant.” She continued, “I am so grateful for the love.. I promise to work harder, I promise to give back… I promise that your love won’t go in vain. Ameen. So much love.. always.”

Mahira’s inclusion in BBC’s list

Mahira is also named as one of the BBC’s 100 most influential women 2020 because she inspires women and believes in a positive change in society. Furthermore, she also made an evident place in the Forbes list of Asia’s top 100 social media stars in 2020. Moreover, Khan was also appointed as Goodwill Ambassador for refugees, for Pakistan by the United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees.
