Talal Qureshi: The Trap King in the North!

Talal Qureshi: The Trap King in the North!

Music for Pakistan has always been one of the attractions. There was a time when bands from the ’80s and ’90s are all we live for. Being a 90’s kid this could be the biggest relate. Starting from Awaaz, Strings, Junoon, and Vital Signs we all have grown up. And now due to different musical platforms arranged by big brands. We see newly emerging bands like Kashmir, E-Sharp, Darvesh, Xarb, Tamasha, and Bayaan who are changing the musical dynamics. But what about the solo artists who are working extremely hard being all low-key and still getting the hype? Talal Qureshi is one of them!

Talal Qureshi

Hailing from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Talal born on 2nd April 1988 and shifted to Islamabad where he started working with music at the age of 13. He released his first single “Phase Shift” in 2007. In 2012, he released his debut EP “Equator.”

Talal Qureshi and music

Talal Qureshi has worked with plenty of underground and local artists. He has a fan following from the neighboring countries as well. Some of the names include Hasan Raheem, Faris Shafi, Mooroo, Naseebo Lal, Natasha Noorani, Maanu, Adil Omar, and a California-based singer Rehma.

He produced the music for Hasan Raheem’s song Paisa which got 654k views and was appreciated not just in Pakistan but got worldwide appraisal from Pakistani and Indian fan following.

His collaboration with Faris Shafi is a banger. The song called “Jawab De” was featured on BBC Asian Network.

No just this, Talal Qureshi found out the rock-pop side of Naseebo Lal for his song “Aag,” he released the song two years ago and it was unexpected of Naseebo Lal to have sung it. Now we have seen her in the PSL 6 anthem so we can relate it. But take your journey two years back with no memory of PSL 6 in your mind and listen to it, and you will find what a great discovery that was!

Furthermore, A local music artist Maanu released his new song “5 AM” in collaboration with TQ a few days ago, and the song is getting recognition among people.

Moreover, Adil Omar along with Talal Qureshi formed their own band-duo SKNM in 2015. And they both released a single in 2018 featuring Tim Armstrong of the 1991’s Punk Rock band Rancid.

The future of music in Pakistan

The electronic music fanbase in Pakistan is very limited and hardly get the showcasing on local media outlets thanks to YouTube that people are able to witness quality music and mind blowing production. Talal Qureshi often organizes shows by himself or been organized by a certain group who believes his music. And the type of music Talal makes compliments the night time rather than the daylight.

Despite EDM music being an oasis in Pakistan. The country still lives lots under music bans and stringent censor board laws. But artists like them are making the musical society alive in the industry! ROCK ON TO!

Women Empower Wednesday: Fatima Bhutto

Politics in Pakistan is a Game of Thrones in real life. The constant battle of who gets who and how much they get is something we all have been witnessing since the birth of Pakistan. We have seen the history of the Bhutto family’s political dynamics and believe that almost everyone from their family is somehow related to politics. Still, Benazir Bhutto is one of the bravest and resilient female politicians the world has ever seen. We have another gem from the Bhutto family who never stepped into politics and chose to write and was also a critic of Benazir Bhutto. That woman is Fatima Bhutto.

Fatima Bhutto

Born on the 29th May 1982, Fatima Bhutto is a Pakistani writer and columnist. Born in Kabul, she is the daughter of politician Murtaza Bhutto, niece of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, and granddaughter of former Prime Minister and President of Pakistan, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. She was raised in Syria and Karachi, and received her bachelor’s degree from Barnard College, followed by a Master’s degree from the SOAS, University of London.

Fatima Bhutto Critic of Benazir Bhutto

Bhutto is a critic of her aunt Benazir Bhutto and her husband Asif Ali Zardari, whom she accused of being involved in her father’s murder. She wrote a non-fiction book, Songs Of Blood And Sword (2010), which is about her family. Bhutto’s family memoir Songs of Blood and Sword was published in 2010. In the book, Bhutto accuses her aunt Benazir and her husband Asif Zardari of killing her father Murtaza. The book got mixed to negative reviews from critics for being biased on the history of her family. Several family members have accused her of falsifying information.

Fatima Bhutto has written for The News and The Guardian among other publications.

Politics and dream of being a writer!

Not surprisingly, Fatima had no desire to enter the political world. Following the death of her auntie, Benazir Bhutto, there was theory over her entry into politics. In an interview, she expressed that until further notice she likes to stay dynamic through her activism and writing, as opposed to through chosen elected office and that she needs to “rule a political career out entirely because of the effect of dynasties on Pakistan,” alluding to the Bhutto family administration and its connections to Pakistani legislative issues. In spite of the fact that Bhutto is politically dynamic, she isn’t associated with any political group.

Moreover, She says that she always wanted to be a writer. She was very lucky to have a father who was a feminist and as a child, she was always told she could do anything. Bhutto loved to write. On one occasion she said, “I’m doing my dream job! There’s no way I’d surrender it.”

Women empowerment and Bhutto

Fatima Bhutto is vocal about women’s rights and Islam. She talks enthusiastically about equal rights and women’s rights on every ground. On one occasion she said, “The Islam I know gives women a lot of rights.” Bhutto also believes that women in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh lag behind inequality not because of culture, but because of politics.

The lack of political will is the main reason behind women not coming forward. And strong women like Fatima Bhutto are changing this narrative every day!

  • If you can stop thinking about the past and the future and be present in the Now you will feel better.

Death out of fear

Tragic to say that a significant number of us neglect to live in the current minutes and consistently will in general lament the past and make progress toward progress and fortune later on. Consequently, the author said, that the mystery of life is to “die before you die”, and find that there is no actual death.

There is no tomorrow

If there is a moment of happiness, that is only in this time. Oh well in our lives, individuals appear to be living before or in the fantasies which have no reality when you don’t have anything to do in the present. No one rejects that we generally leave the present work for later. Nonetheless, we realize that there is no tomorrow except for a few of us try not to comprehend the worth of now.

Just through getting to the force of Now, which is your own force, can there be genuine forgiving. This delivers the past, feeble. And you understand profoundly that nothing you could possibly do or that was at any point done to you could contact even in the smallest the brilliant pith of what your identity is. The entire idea of forgiveness then gets unnecessary.

Book Review: The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine by Rashid Khalidi

This book The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine A History of Settler Colonialism and Resistance 1917-2017 by Rashid Khalidi is a landmark history. The history of one hundred years of war. The war waged against the Palestinians. From the foremost US historian of the Middle East, told through pivotal events and family history.

About the author – Rashid Khalidi

Rashid Ismail Khalidi is a Palestinian American historian of the Middle East. The Edward Said Professor of Modern Arab Studies at Columbia University. He is also the director of the Middle East Institute of Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs. He also is known for serving as editor of the scholarly journal Journal of Palestine Studies.

Khalidi’s research covers primarily the history of the modern Middle East. He focuses on the countries of the southern and eastern Mediterranean, with an eye to the emergence of various national identities. And the role played by external powers in their development. He also researches the impact of the press on forming new senses of community. The role of education in the construction of political identity. And the way narratives have developed over the past centuries in the region. Michael C. Hudson, director of the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies at Georgetown, describes Khalidi as “preeminent in his field.”

He served as president of the Middle East Studies Association of North America in 1994 and is currently the editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies.

The book in review The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine by Rashid Khalidi

In 1899, Yusuf Diya al-Khalidi, mayor of Jerusalem. Frightened by the Zionist call to make a Jewish public home in Palestine. He composed a letter focused on Theodore Herzl. The nation had a native group who might not effectively acknowledge their own removal. He cautioned of the hazards ahead, finishing his note, “for the sake of God, let Palestine be left alone.”

Thus Rashid Khalidi, al-Khalidi’s incredible extraordinary nephew, starts this broad history. The primary general record of the contention told from an expressly Palestinian point of view.

Drawing on a wealth of untapped archival materials and the reports of generations of family members scholars, diplomats, and journalists. The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine upends accepted interpretations of the conflict. Which tend, at best, to describe a tragic clash between two peoples with claims to the same territory. Khalidi traces a hundred years of colonial war on the Palestinians, waged first by the Zionist movement and then Israel. But backed by Britain and the United States, the great powers of the age. He highlights the key episodes in this colonial campaign. From the 1917 Balfour Declaration to the destruction of Palestine in 1948, from Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon to the endless and futile peace process.

Also Read: Book Review: The Kite Runner by Khalid Hosseini

Original, authoritative, and important, The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine is not a chronicle of victimization, nor does it whitewash the mistakes of Palestinian leaders or deny the emergence of national movements on both sides.

In reevaluating the forces arrayed against the Palestinians, it offers an illuminating new view of a conflict that continues to this day.
