The story

According to the description, the nearly two-hour long movie is a unique cinematic cut that has been re-edited and remixed for the big screen. It will include songs from the band’s Yet to Come concert in Busan, which was held on October 15 of last year to support South Korea’s bid to host the World Expo in 2030.

About 52,000 people attended the free concert, which was titled “BTS Yet To Come> in BUSAN,” which took place in a stadium. The concert marked the band’s final live performance before each member began his or her military service, beginning with the oldest, Jin.

About the band, BTS!

One of the biggest bands in the world, BTS was founded in 2013. The K-pop group became well-known throughout the world thanks to hits like “Mic Drop,” “Butter,” “Permission to Dance,” “Idol,” and others.

Pakistan is home to a sizable fan base for the Korean band. They have accomplished everything with pride, from getting their songs to the top of the charts to hosting birthday parties for their idols and giving to charity. Last year, Pakistan’s BTS ARMY set up a medical camp in honour of Jungkook and lit up digital billboards in Bahawalpur and Multan with birthday greetings.

In Multan’s Gulgasht Colony, a whopping 150 digital street post billboards were used to wish Jungkook well. The same video that was shown in Bahawalpur was shown here. Over 350 patients were treated for free by doctors at the Lahore free medical camp. Thursday Tunes: Hasan Raheem spreading chilled up vibes with his debut album Nautanki

Nautanki by Hasan Raheem

I imagine that there aren’t many people in K-town who are unaware of Hasan Raheem anymore. The “Paisa” crooner rose to fame when, in January 2021, his song “Aisay Kaisay” unexpectedly and greatly gained popularity first in India and then in Pakistan, bringing a fresh RnB soul to a non-indie friendly nation. Since then, Hasan Raheem has been on the rise. Songs after songs, concerts after concerts his fan following sky-rocketed.

A new gem for a crown, debut album!

And Hasan Raheem is back with his new debut “Nautanki.” The singer has been building anticipation for this album for weeks, and it is now also available in its entirety on YouTube. The album has thus far garnered a great deal of praise. Additionally, this is Hasan Raheem’s debut studio album.

First thoughts

Singer has kept his word and released a 9-track album with a variety of moods. It surely got us grooving. “Nautanki” features a number of upbeat songs rife with romance, drama, and angst. The song names got us giggling with Kaleji, Accusations, DIBS, Dil fareb, IDK, Fursat, Tareekhi, and ofcourse Nautanki!

The album’s lead song with the same name, collocates a variety of jazzy and pop elements and argues in favour of impromptu music that simultaneously confuses and amuses listeners.

The forever favourite ones…

My favourite was unquestionably DIBS. The melody transported me to slower-paced Roosevelt times in the early 2000s. The lyrics are enjoyable to hear as well.

However, Tareekhi was the song I adored the most. When I first heard it, the combination of fast pop and a slow beat and tempo caught me off guard, and I immediately looped it. There is no denying how well Raheem and Abdullah Kasumbi complement each other. The comfort he feels around Kasumbi is evident in his songs. I adore the songs he performs with Talal Qureshi. He is also a priceless find, particularly for Raheem.

DIBS by Hasan Raheem lyrics,
Sarey dibs on you,
Phir bhi kyun nai meri tu,
Banja meri baby boo,
Main tera aur meri tu.

Tareekhi lyrics,
Saaya tera jabsey gaya,
Tabsey mera har din naya,
Kehna jo tha wo keh diya,
Parda karlaingay jaan e jaan.

In a clip that Spotify also released, Hasan talks about his musical journey, which he started while pursuing a medical degree.

So which track did you like the most from the album?

Top Pakistani songs of 2022

Music, a soulful bridge!

We always turn to music in difficult times. While the past few years may have favored international artists, 2022 has shown us that Pakistani artists are more than capable of dominating our playlists.

This year, we observed people moving to the songs “Tu Jhoom” by Abida Perveen and Naseebo Lal and “Kahani Suno” by Kaifi Khalil, as well as learning a lot about new music from people and their listening habits.

Here are of most favourites from the year 2022, listed below.

Pasoori by Ali Sethi and Shae Gill

The song that became the national… no, not national… international sensation! Coke Studio season 14 Pakistan released Pasoori 10 months ago and during this span it garnered a whopping 447M views worldwide. The song is a beautiful tale full of vibrant colours and magical beats. Another talent Shae Gill also came as a surprise for many with her husky voice and beautiful locks. Everything was beyond magical with the song.

Faltu Pyar by Natasha Noorani and Hasan Raheem

This year, Natasha Noorani and Hasan Raheem’s song “Teray jhootay alfaaz, don’t be a dhokaybaaz” became our anthem, and you really can’t blame us. More importantly, the song is a bop, and we are happy that it exists.

We won’t be removing this song from our playlist anytime soon thanks to Raheem’s infectious smile. Moreover, the song’s reggaeton-like beat, and fresh upbeat feels.

Naya Naya by Bilal Maqsood

Strings calling it quits after 33 years as a band was one of the biggest heartbreak of all times. But in 2022, Faisal Kapadia’s song for Coke Studio and Bilal Maqsood’s solo track “Naya Naya” marked new beginnings for broken Strings.

While Kapadia was absent, “Naya Naya” transported us back to the Strings’ earlier years. Maqsood’s talk about the start of a new chapter in his life filled the song with all of his emotions.

Iraaday by Abdul Hannan

Well if you have not taken your girl out on a cute POV picnic and play Iraaday in the background, you should take notes…

This song by Abdul Hannan has gained popularity on Instagram and TikTok since its release. In the eight months since it was released, it has received 15 million views, and for good reason—the mood-lifting beats and oh-so-cute lyrics is all we need.

Habibi by Asim Azhar

Every year Asim releases a song and it becomes a sensation. Since because of his nice gesture and breathtaking charisma, he is pretty loved among the people. His song Habibi was hailed as the season’s “patch-up song.” We’ve been moving to it ever since it was released because it became a popular TikTok dance video!

Sukoon by Shae Gill, Hassan & Roshaan

The name of the song tells the tale itself. One of the most peaceful songs of the decade is Sukoon by Shae Gill, Hassan and Roshaan. With the aid of music, Sukoon’s vibe can help you forget about the outside world and heal. The music video is a vibe in itself ngl! Watch it for yourself and gather a peaceful aura around you.

Kahani Suno 2.0 by Kaifi Khalil

Boy, oh boy! Kaifi Khalil, what a sensation! After Kana Yaari’s performance we knew Kaifi is here to stay. Kahani Suno is one of the most famous tracks on TikTok and Social Media. Every romantic heart is humming it around and we say why not? The song creates magic when it starts! The only bad part about it that it ends!

Bach Ke by Talwiinder and Hasan Raheem

This must be included for us without a doubt. One of the Indian artists born in the US is Talwiinder. And this collaboration is among the best things that have ever happened to the music business. The music is upbeat. Featuring catchy beats, neon visuals, and a feeling of connection between the two artists. Our favourite song of the year is without a doubt this one.

Friday Flix Series of the Week: 1899

1899, a slow agonising sci-fi death

Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar may not be huge names, but they are arguably two of streaming’s most influential figures. Their sci-fi series Dark was Netflix’s first German-language original and was a worldwide success. It paved the way for Squid Game, Lupin, All Of Us Are Dead, and a more global approach to programming.

The Dark team returns two years after the conclusion of their time-traveling, parallel universe-incorporating conspiracy drama.

1899 cast

The 1899 cast includes Emily Beecham, Aneurin Barnard, Anton Lesser, Andreas Pietschmann, and Fflyn Edwards as the lead.

The supporting cast includes Miguel Bernardeau, José Pimentão, Isabella Wei, Yann Gael, Mathilde Ollivier, Jonas Bloquet, Rosalie Craig. Since the 1899 cast is also extended as DARK, the other cast members include Maciej Musia?, Clara Rosager, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Maria Erwolter, Alexandre Willaume, Tino Mewes, and, Isaak Dentler.

Too much mystery!

Their new 1899 series is another horror-mystery puzzle box with a sci-fi twist. The setting in this case is a grand steamship crossing the Atlantic, where class segments was present. The year is 1899, 13 years before the Titanic collides with an iceberg, but the parallels are striking and sensing death.

To make matters worse, a ship on the same journey disappeared without a trace four months earlier. That ship, the Prometheus sends out a distress signal, which is picked up by the Kerbaros mid-flight. And it is decided that the hell dog ship and the eternally tormented titan ship should finally meet.

A slow death of 1899

A diverse international crew crews the Kerbaros. Moreover, the series is performed in French, English, Cantonese, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Danish, and German.

Maura Franklin (Emily Beecham), a doctor with a mysterious past, is at the centre of the rabble, while Ramiro (José Pimento), a Spanish priest also fleeing a mysterious past, provides the moral compass. Eyk Larsen (Andreas Pietschmann), the ship’s captain, is haunted by visions of his own, you guessed it, mysterious past.

Also Read: Friday Flix Series of the Week: Inventing Anna

A lot of ideas are thrown at the wall in 1899. There’s time and space travel, secret portals, creepy children, and more. However, the pacing is ultimately more perplexing than the science fiction.

The mix up of languages (also still slow)

Each actor exudes a natural stage presence. Despite the fact that a variety of languages are spoken, most of the dialogue appears to be filling time between sci-fi plot machinations.

The plot twists can’t compensate for how oppressively dour everything is when the tone is repeatedly played from such a limited selection of notes.

Little to no insight!

The episodes were frequently excruciating. By the halfway point, where there are such long pauses between dialogues that I had to increase the speed to 1.25x, this becomes mildly amusing. The victims offer little to no insight into events other than puzzled expressions and my constant chant of “this doesn’t make any sense.”

Final Verdict

If Dark is any indication, it’s worth hoping that the series’ conclusion will be its pinnacle. However, given the six hours of required viewing prior to the final act, the adventures of the Kerbaros are unlikely to pique the interest of global audience in the same way that Friese and bo Odar’s maiden voyage did.

The chaos of One Pot Chicken Qorma by UK Tasty

Qorma, the magic of Mughals

Almost every Pakistani, no… everyone from the subcontinent, has heard of Qorma. Some people pronounce it Korma as well. But what has recently happened to us is a sad state of affairs. Yes, UK Tasty has ripped apart our beloved dish in the name of “One Pot Chicken Korma.” [talk about post colonial affects]

Let us take you back a few centuries before we get to the tragedy…

The magnificent dish, Qorma

Korma or Qorma (?????) is a dish originating in Indian subcontinent. It consists of meat braised with yogurt (dahi), water or stock, and spices to produce a thick sauce or gravy.

The origins of Qorma

Korma has its origins in the Indian subcontinent’s Mughlai cuisine. It is a traditional Mughal dish that dates back to the 16th century and the Mughal incursions into the region.

Not just that, Kormas were frequently prepared in Mughal court kitchens, such as the famous white korma, possibly garnished with vark. It used to be served to Shah Jahan and his guests at the Taj Mahal’s inauguration.

Moreover, some kormas are referred to as Shahi (English: Royal), indicating their status as a prestige dish rather than an everyday meal, as well as their association with the court.

Qorma Recipe

The Qorma recipe technique encompasses a wide range of styles. A korma’s flavour is based on a combination of spices, including ground coriander and cumin, combined with yogurt kept below curdling temperature and slowly and carefully incorporated with the meat juices. Furthermore, this was traditionally done in a pot set over a very low fire, with charcoal on the lid to provide all-around heat. Moreover, Korma can be mildly spiced or fiery, and it can be made with lamb, goat meat, chicken, or beef.

The tragedy befalls

Before you continue reading, we must warn you that what you are about to see may cause stinging sensation in your soul and your eyes to plead for mercy. Trigger warning: a cultural cuisine is murdered.

On Saturday, Tasty UK shared a video recipe on Twitter with the caption, bless their naïve little hearts, “One-Pot Chicken Qorma [heart eyes emoji]”

We have no idea who is to blame for this atrocity. They attempted to sweeten it by adding raisins! Oh, our precious hearts.

The phrase “one-pot” was posed in such a way that we thought, maybe it’s something new, but we never expected qorma to be completely overrun. They added rice, raisins, spinach, and then had the audacity to scoop it all up in a bowl. All ingredients were visible in the ‘mix,’ probably pleading for mercy and plotting their escape. Overall, we are not doing well.

Desi Twitter lost it!

Subcontinent was enraged. We’ve been through enough! Desi Twitter loses its cool, with some retweets and reactions coming straight from the heart!

Farha: ‘Smear campaign’ by Israel targets Netflix film depicting Nakba

A smear campaign against Netflix “Farha”

In what appears to be a coordinated campaign, hundreds of spam accounts have left negative reviews of the film Farha on the movie rating site IMDb.

The film, which is currently streaming on Netflix and is set during the 1948 Nakba. It revolves around a teenage girl who witnesses Zionist militias murder her entire family, including a baby. Darin Sallam, a Jordanian director, says her debut feature is based on true events. Moreover, she learned about those incidents from her Palestinian father.

Criticism from Israel

On this, Israeli officials have criticised the film. However, Palestinians argue that abuses like those depicted in the film are documented to have occurred. Following the Israeli condemnation, the film’s ratings on IMDb have plummeted dramatically.

The film’s ratings dropped from 7.2 to 5.8 in a matter of hours on December 1st. Furthermore, in what many activists and campaigners have described as a targeted campaign.

Many of the negative reviews appeared to have come from the same source, with similar comments. Such as calling the film “one-sided” or a “big lie,” according to activists.

In one review, titled “propaganda and fantasy,” and also mentioned as, “over emotional drama.”

Ahmed Shihab-Eldin, a former Al Jazeera journalist believes the negative reviews were part of a coordinated effort to discredit the film. Also, prevent people from seeing it.

“The pacing of the posts reveals it was co-ordinated,” he told Middle East Eye.

“With each passing hour, dozens and dozens of vapid and vile reviews would appear, making wild accusations trashing the film. It was clear people had not seen the film, and only wanted to damage its reputation,” he added.

Many of the accounts posting negative reviews of the film, according to Shihab-Eldin, were created recently.

He claims that over 1,000 negative reviews appeared on the website in a 24-hour period, with “inflammatory and hateful language.”

At the time of publication, the average review rating for Farha on IMDb was 8.1. This implies that the website had removed fake ratings.

Friday Flix Series of the Week: Wednesday

Wednesday Netflix

Wednesday, a Tim Burton-directed Addams Family spinoff has set the record for the most hours watched series on Netflix The show has received praise from both audiences and critics, including longtime fans of the creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky.

Casting of interest!

It was written and directed by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. It stars Jenna Ortega as the title character. Furthermore it stars, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez. Also Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Fred Armisen, and Christina Ricci in supporting roles. Tim Burton, who also serves as executive producer, directs four of the eight episodes.

From Lurch to Thing, the Addams Family is all present, albeit briefly. Catherine Zeta-Jones honours Morticia with commanding physicality and mischievous delivery. Meanwhile Luis Guzmán is a smart Gomez Addams who focuses on making him a great father. Not only that, Isaac Ordonez bring an unintentional sweetness to Wednesday’s younger brother Pugsley.

Wednesday Addams

Wednesday Storyline

The story of Wednesday revolves around the titular character, who attempts to solve a monster mystery at her school. The monochrome heroine (played by the extremely talented Jenna Ortega) is shipped off to Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for outcasts, after a bloody piranha incident.

Nevermore, a school for werewolves, sirens, gorgons, and other strange students, is run by the unsettlingly cheerful Principal Weems (an exceptional Gwendoline Christie with elegant, upbeat Professor Snape energy, constantly comparing Wednesday to her mother back in the day).

The marvellous new character addition

Beyond the Addams Family, Wednesday’s slew of new characters propels our gloomy teen protagonist’s story into a new realm, complete with multiple mysteries to solve — one of which incorporates the famous Addams Family double finger snap in a Pointing Leonardo DiCaprio-esque way.

At the heart of Wednesday’s mysteries are secret societies, unsolved murders, and a good old-fashioned monster hunt — as well as the possibility that a creature walks among them.

The celebration and education of outcasts!

Wednesday, like most of Burton’s work, revolves around the theme of outcasts. Within society, within social groups, and as representative of our eponymous heroine and her eerie family. With the tension between the Nevermore school and the “normie” residents of Jericho, Wednesday broadens the concept of outcasts to discrimination and generational prejudice.

Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams!

Wednesday’s fearlessness and lack of emotions are crucial to her rejection of ‘nice girl’ behaviour. Not just that, it’s frustratingly new to see a teen girl revel in misogynist discomfort and call out people’s idiotic behaviour in front of them.

Moreover, Ortega’s jaded monotone is addictively compelling. Ortega is such a gifted performer that she is able to forge a genuine touching connection with a severed hand, the Addams Family’s beloved Thing, whose role in the show is one of the fresher aspects despite the fact that his body is absent.

Final Verdict

The entire eight-part series is brilliantly directed and acted. Additionally, it must be seen once to determine whether it lived up to the hype that surrounded it in a matter of days! The series is available on Netflix.
